Hwyl Wellbeing

Hwyl means "a sense of exuberance or wellbeing from being completely engaged in an activity or moment" which is the feeling we are keen to create during our classes and events.

Festive Unwind in North Cardiff 🧘🏻‍♀️🎄

I can’t wait to host this slow, relaxing yoga session in the gorgeous space at @stretchysuzies on 7th December ✨

We’ll have a 75 minute yoga class which will be focused on restorative mat based postures to help you to relax and unwind in preparation for a busy festive season. We’ll end the class with an extended savasana to help calm and regulate our nervous system. The class is suitable for all with beginner friendly poses as well as options for progression.

Everyone’s body moves, bends and compresses in different ways 🦿

It doesn’t matter about your body shape or size. Or how flexible or strong you are 💪🏻

What matters is how you feel when you show up for yourself 🥰

How it feels when your body is in different postures 🧘🏻‍♀️

How it feels to observe your body and your mind 🧠

Feeling better when you leave than when you arrive ❤️

November always feels like the start of hibernation season for me, but these are a few things I do to keep feeling Hwyl whilst the shorter, gloomier days are upon us:

🛋️ wrap up in a cosy blanket in front of my tv shows or whilst reading a book

🕯️ light a scented candle - I love lighting my home with candles at this time of year and am starting to experiment with making my own

☕️ hot drinks are a must for comfort this year - bonus points if they’re in your favourite mug

🍁 woodland walks on a crisp day kicking through the leaves are a must at this time of year

🧶 it’s the time of year for crafts and there are a lot more opportunities to do it as part of a social activity these days!

🧘🏻‍♀️ slow flow yoga is my fave at this time of year - less pace and more mindful movement. Drop me a DM if you’d like more information on my Festive Unwind session in December - spaces are already limited.

What else are you doing to feel Hwyl this November?

Yoga isn’t being able to do a handstand or be super flexible.

It’s about carving time out of our busy lives to move our bodies and still our minds.

We are faced with so much information every day and are busier than we’ve ever been. It’s overwhelming. Sometimes we don’t slow down until it’s too late and we absolutely have to.

Carving time out of our busy lives and schedules to move and limit the demands on our brain isn’t a nice to have. It’s essential for a healthy and balanced life.

My events and classes are designed to just do that. I’ll take you away from the demands of life for the time we are together, creating a sanctuary where you can leave everything behind. We’ll take time to settle our busy brains and focus on our movement and our breath. I’ll give you full guidance and options to challenge yourself or just give your body what it needs. No experience necessary or expectations, other than to show up for yourself.

None of us can stop our lives from happening around us, but I can help you to find some tools to feel like you can handle everything more easily. My goal is to make sure you’ll feel better when you leave your time with me than when you arrived.

In a world that constantly demands more of your attention, time and energy, making space for yourself is a necessity. It’s not a nice to have.

Your nervous system isn’t designed to constantly be giving. Ignoring the needs of your body and mind to rest will only lead to burnout.

Taking time to reconnect with yourself isn’t all about bubble baths and face masks. It’s taking time away from the distractions in life to connect with your body and breath.

When we take the time to recharge it helps us to be our best self. For you and those around you. Sometimes we just need to unplug, even for a short time.

Yoga helps us to be present. Focusing on moving and breathing away from life’s distractions.

My events are designed to give two hours, just for you. There are no expectations other than to show up for yourself and switch off, even for a short time.

I provide a space for you to move and breathe, connecting with a community of people like you. And people like me.

Balance doesn’t come naturally to me.

A year ago I could barely stand on one leg to put my socks on without falling over.

It’s taken a lot of perseverance and practice but single leg balances are now some of my favourite poses. I still wobble or fall out of them, but I’ve focused on improving and can laugh and try again when they don’t work out.

Single-leg balances provide a playful way to improve your patience and strength, while also serving as a simple yet effective indicator of overall health and longevity.

Research has shown that being able to stand on one leg not only improves stability and core strength which will help us in later life, but can also help increase our life span and cognitive functions.

Those aged 18-39 should aim to be able to stand on one leg for 43 seconds - sounds easy right? Now give it a go…

I used to think yoga wasn’t for me.

I thought I wasn’t flexible enough, I couldn’t touch my toes and was worried everyone would look at me if I went to a class because I couldn’t do it.

My classes are not about how you look, how bendy you are or how close you get to your toes.

They’re about letting go of the pressures of your life and taking time for you. Taking time to tune into your body and your mind, leaving everything else at the door. Even if only for one hour.

I want you to leave feeling better than you did when you arrived, whatever that looks like for you.

I want to teach yoga to people like me.

I often feel overstimulated by the many demands in life and have a particularly busy brain that I find difficult to switch off 🧠

Yoga is one of the best and most accessible ways for me to find focus and calm but the absolute best thing for me is to be by the sea 🌊

I’m very lucky to live and work in Wales where we have some of the best beaches and coastline in the world 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I absolutely love being close to the sea. I find it so grounding to breathe in the fresh air, listen to the waves and watch the water move in front of me. For me, this is the ultimate calm 🧘🏻‍♀️
